Six Indians place in states, New Englands

The Milford Indian Wrestling Club ran its yearly state qualifier on Feb. 17 at Foran High.

Twenty-eight Indian wrestlers participated in the event in which 18 qualified to wrestle in the State Championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, CT on Feb. 24.   In order to qualify to wrestle in the State Championships a wrestler must place in the top four in his/her weight class at the qualifier.

Out of the 18 wrestlers who competed in the State Championships, MIWC had six champions, two second-place finishers, a third-place and two fourth-place finishess.

Ethan Edmondson (87 pounds), Matthew Weiner (112 pounds), Nico Provo (60 pounds), Ray Weiner 140 pounds), Ryan Luth 91 pounds) and Michael Ross (112 pounds) earned state titles.

TJ Muratori (65 pounds) and Nu-Kwan Fair (84 pounds) were runners-up.

Qasim Khan (160 pounds) was third. Joey Iamunno (55 pounds)  and Pearson Hill (65 pounds) placed fourth. All first-year wrestlers with MIWC.

Other wrestlers who competed but did not place were Gino Esposito, Connor Smith, Aiden Hebert, Christain Chadwick, CJ Shea, Tristain Adrezjewski and Joey Sansone.

Eight MIWC wrestlers advanced to compete in the Youth New England Tournament held on March 9-10, 2013 at Lowell High School in Lowell MA.

Almost 700 of New Englands best competed against one another and six Indians fought their way onto the podium by weekends end.

Luth placed third, Smith and Matthew Weiner placed fourth, Hill placed fifth and Fair and Shea placed sixth.
