Pirates top Yankees in JML baseball

The Junior Major League Cal Ripken Minor Division Pirates, sponsored by Milford Auto Car Quest, defeated the A  E Copier Yankees 5-2 in a recent Sunday night game. The Pirates improved to 11-4 on the season and the Yankees fell to 4-9.

The Yankees struck in the top of the first with an RBI single by Mike Kwolek, which scored David Smith.

The Pirates came back with two of their own in the bottom half of the frame on a two-run hit by Cody Dineson.

Declan Wywoda kept the Yankee bats quiet in the second inning, while the Pirates scored again on an RBI single by Mary Elena Rodrigues that plated Ronan Smith.

The Yankees scored a run off Pirate pitcher Chris Gladue when Devin Calvin crossed the plate on an error.

Again, the Pirates bounced back with two more runs in their half of the third.

Anthony Brassell led off with a triple and scored on Wywoda’s single. Singles by Jake Stash and Gladue brought in Wywoda.

From there the Pirate pitching of Stephen Witteman (one inning) and Dineson (two innings) kept the Yankees off the board.

Stellar pitching by the Yankees’ Smith kept the game close.
