Next Dimension opens season
The Next Dimension Gymnastics girls team started its competitive season in early December with a strong showing in the season opener.
The team traveled to Providence, Rhode Island, where it competed at the Rhode Island Invitational from Levels 3-10.
The girls represent local towns including Fairfield, Trumbull, Monroe, Milford and Easton.
Highlights of the weekend include top optional gymnasts earning the highest awards.
At Level 10, Julia Sebben took home the gold for bars and Linda McAuley earned the gold on vault. Both girls are seniors in high school.
Level 9 gymnast, sophomore Jennifer O’Neill, won the all-around title as well as gold medals on vault, bars and beam.
At Level 8, the team earned the second-place award and many individual medals, including all-around placements of: Kate Burns second, Natalie Smerling third and Samantha Markland and Katie Meehan fourth.
Smerling and Meehan earned gold on floor and Meehan also earned top honors on beam.
At Level 7, the team had especially strong floor exercise performances. This included first-place medals for Ashleigh Johnson, Annsley Martin and Mari Andrzejewski.
In the compulsory levels, Levels 4 and 5 earned first-place team awards and many individual placements as well.
Standout performances included: Level 5 first-place Alexandra Castro on beam and Mary Hope Falsetti and Zoe Foldesi on vault; Level 4 first-place Hanah Silva on all around, vault, floor and bars, Macarthy Keane on all events for her age, Caitlin Vozzella on all around, beam and floor, Elizabeth Falterer and Cassie Gallace on bars, and Schulyer Tomey on vault; and Level 3 first place Natalie Lieto on all around and beam.
