Nationals and Braves meet again on diamond

In a rematch with the Nationals, the Braves were not intimidated by the premier team in the Milford Junior Major League’s Rookie Division.

The Braves broke through in the top of the second inning after Luis Lozada’s lead-off triple, as Michael Smith drove him in with a single.

The Nationals playing without two two of their big bats in the lineup, were not to be held down for long. Stringing together doubles in three successive at bats, they jumped ahead in the bottom half of the inning.

The Braves were led in the field by the outstanding defensive efforts of Kevin Chen, who has found a home at first base, and William LeCuyer, who yet again showed his range and savvy at second base assisting with put outs and starting double plays.

Luis Lozada showed his versatility flawlessly playing third base, as well as the pitcher position.

Other notable contributions in the field were Logan Harriman (C), Matthew Sissick ( LF, 1B), James Cavallaro (LCF, 2B ), Ruby Moretti ( RF, 3B ), PJ Fiallos ( OF, P ), Caleb Jordan ( SS, RF ) and Michael Smith ( LCF, SS).

At the  plate LeCuyer, Lozada and Chen had two hits and Smith one.

The ceremonial game ball was awarded to PJ Fiallos.

The Braves will be off for the Memorial Day weekend, but will be back in action again on Friday May 31, vs the Rays at John Francis Field, with a 4:30 p.m. start, and Saturday, June 1, vs the Rangers at Francis with a scheduled 2:30 p.m. start time.
