MNLG Mariners topple MILL Angels in pitching duel

The Milford National Lou Gehrig Mariners’ John Shannon and MILL Angel’s Andrew Janik put on a pitching show, striking out a combined 18 batters.

Shannon allowed two runs on six hits striking out 10 over five innings. Janik allowed two runs on two hits striking out eight over three innings.

The Mariners got on the board first when Zack Smith doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the first.

The Angels scored two in the fourth after Rich Piscetilli singled and Scott Clark homered to deep right field to make it a 2-1 game.

The Mariners would take the lead back in the home half of the fourth on five walks, a sacrifice bunt and a hit batter.

That was all the Mariners would need to secure the win in a well played game by both teams.
