Lions sink Easties, punch ticket to SCC final
Consecutive third-inning RBI singles from Marissa Bruno, Fallon Bevino and Rebekah DeRosa powered Foran to a 3-1 victory over East Haven in the SCC softball semifinals on Thursday night.
Jess Harkness fired a four-hitter, striking out 13, for the sixth-seeded Lions (18-4) at rain-swept Biondi Field in West Haven, helping Foran punch its ticket to the final. The Lions, the defending league champions, will face top-seeded Mercy of Middletown (21-1) in final on Saturday night at Biondi Field at 7 p.m.
East Haven, which fell to 18-4, scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-out RBI single from McKenzie Miessau. The Yellowjackets looked to rally in the bottom of the seventh, but DeRosa took potential extra-base hits away from pinch hitter Laura Anderson and lead-off batter Amanda Jessey with spectacular running catches in center field.
DeRosa also had two hits for the Lions.
