Indians edge Pirates in Cal Ripken baseball

The Matties Service Center Indians squeaked past the Milford Auto Car Quest Pirates, 5-4, in an April 30 Milford Cal Ripken Minor’s game.

Indians’ starting pitcher Jason Cruz Jr. walked the first batter he faced, then struck out the side.

He added two more strikeouts in the second, before Kian McEnerney came in to pitch in the third inning and threw three scoreless frames.

Cruz contributed two doubles on offense, while Liam Fedigan had a three-RBI hit to left field.

Jon Peterson and McEnerney also had triples. The game-winning hit came from Sheehan Munin in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Anthony Brassel opened the game for the 3-2 Pirates with two early strikeouts before relinquishing the mound to Cody Dineson.

Dineson pitched two scoreless innings with five strikeouts.

Declan Wywoda relieved Dennison and allowed only one run in the last three innings.

Wywoda was also a major contributor on the offensive end with a key hit in the third inning driving in three runs.
