Hoopskills Basketball will be hosting the 2nd annual Hoops for the Troops Basketball Clinic on Friday, Sept. 11, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Parsons Gym in Milford.

Meade is a former high school and college coach and currently works as a scout for the NBA’s Utah Jazz. The clinic is designed to improve the skills of boys and girls age 6-14. The activities are fun, hands on drills and contests that let the players learn from practicing.

The participation fee is a donation of $30 and enrollment is limited to the first 75 paid registrants. Each player will receive a new basketball. Online registration is available at www.hoopskillsbasketball.com.

United for the Troops is a not for profit organization run by Jim and Patty Rathschmidt, parents of a former U.S. Marine. They have sent over 10,000 boxes of donated items to American soldiers over the past six years. Hoopskills recently partnered with United for the Troops to help them raise money to cover the cost of their operation.

The clinic also has two new sponsors this year with Carrubba and Berchem, Moses & Devlin Law Firm stepping up to cover the costs.

All are encouraged to attend and make a donation. A list of desirable items can be found on the UFT website www.unitedforthetroops.org. Raffle prizes, including sports souvenirs will also be part of the event. Prizes include WWE souvenirs, UConn Husky autographed souvenirs, Utah Jazz gear and a variety of items and gift certificates from local businesses. All proceeds to benefit United for the Troops.
