Eli's Tavern Braves meet Mattie's Service Center Indians
The Milford Junior Major League Cal Ripken fall baseball season kicked off on Aug. 25, with a match up between the Minor (10U) Braves sponsored by Eli’s Tavern and the Mattie’s Service Center Indians.
The Indians starting pitcher Riley Hodges allowed only one run in the top of the first, as Ryan Samson drove home Anthony Brassell with a sacrifice fly.
Samson, pitching for the Braves, held the Indians scoreless in the first but Julien Roy’s solid hit tied the game in the second.
The Braves added two runs in the bottom of the inning on a savvy drag bunt single by Ryan French and an RBI hit by Ethan Toledo to take a 3-1 lead.
Liam Fedigan took over on the pitching mound for the Braves to get out of a bases-loaded, two-out jam with a clutch strike out.
Fedigan then pitched a scoreless third inning, inducing two ground outs and a strike out.
Brassell led off the bottom of the third for the Braves with a walk, followed by consecutive RBI hits by Samson, Kian McEnerny and Jack Sellman.
Ben Kraft reached base safely while knocking in Sellman and the Braves six-run inning was capped off by an RBI sacrifice by Cal Wrigley.
Fedigan got the first two outs of the next inning by strike out before being relieved by French.
The Indians scored two runs on a few errors and a walk, but the inning ended on a put out at home as the Indians attempted to score their third run of the inning.
The Braves added on four more runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game by mercy rule, 13-3.
Brassell scored three runs and Samson had three RBIs.
