The Milford Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its Boy’s & Girl’s 7 & 8-year-old Developmental Basketball League.
The league will play Sundays beginning at 11:30 a.m. starting in late November at the West Shore Recreation Center and the Parsons Complex Gymnasium running approximately eight non-consecutive weeks.
This program is for Milford residents or taxpayers only; children must be 7 or 8 years old as of December 31, 2014. Six and nine-year-olds are not permitted.
Each week teams will have a brief 15-minute instruction period followed by a 45-minute game. The emphasis will be on its participants having fun while learning the basic fundamental skills and rules of basketball.
The leagues design relies solely on the coach’s ability to teach during a game situation while serving as a referee. This affords each coach the ability to stop the game and explain the reason for the stoppage to effectively teach the rules and fundamentals of basketball in a game setting.
Scores or standings will not be kept; modified lowered baskets will be used and equal playing time is mandatory.
The $25 registration fee includes a uniform/t-shirt. Teams will consist of a maximum of ten players to better facilitate equal playing time.
Individuals may register at milfordrecreation.com or in person at the Recreation Department in the Parsons Complex, 70 West River St.
The registration deadline for all returning players is Nov. 1, and Nov. 14 for new players. If space permits, late registration will begin on Nov. 15. Those who register on or after this date are subject to a $35 registration fee and requests are only accommodated if space permits, this includes returning players.
Late registration will continue until all teams are full. Uniform/t-shirt is not included if registered after Nov. 15.
Teams are created by the Recreation Department based upon parent/coach requests and child’s school; there is no draft. All requests during this period will be accommodated provided team space permits.
Returning players are automatically assigned to their previous year’s team provided they register by the deadline.
New players are added to an existing team or become a part of a new team. The target start date is Nov. 30, and the league should conclude by February.
Coaches are also wanted and may sign-up upon registering his/her child or on our website.
Coaches may request as many children as they would like not to exceed ten total players.
