Angels edge Padres in Little League thriller

The Milford International Little League Angels edged the Milford National Lou Gehrig Padres, 3-2, on May 23.

The Angels and Padres received stellar starting pitching from Calvin Boyd, and Andrew Janik. Boyd held the Angels scoreless through five-plus innings and Janik gave up one run on two hits through four-plus innings striking out 11 Padres.

The Padres’ Jason Turner led off the fourth with a double and Jason DeEll drove him in with a sacrifice fly. Turner would score again off another hit from DeEll to make it a 2-0 game heading to the bottom of the sixth.

In the Angels half of the sixth with one out, Rich Piscetilli beat out an infield hit and Scott Clark worked a walked. Janik was up next and drove in Piscetilli, followed by Brian Pepe who reached on an error as Clark scored to tie the game at 2 and moving Janik to third.

Jason Olexovitch, who was 2-for-2 with a double on the day, came up with the clutch hit for the Angels driving in Janik for the game winner.
