With the state playoffs set to begin Saturday, the Milford Post 196 American Legion team stayed in the hunt with an 11-0 victory over West Haven at Piurek Field on Thursday night.

Post 196 (12-13) got a six-inning complete-game effort from Jeremiah Bravo on the mound and its offense struck for five runs each in both the fifth and sixth innings.

"He's a big strong kid, he threw strikes," Milford head coach Bugyi said of Bravo. "And we had some key hits in the right spots."

Ryan Muir, Nick Tuozzola and Colin Firmender led the charge with two hits and two runs batted in apiece. Maxwell Gorlick added two hits, two runs scored and one RBI, while Brian Wydra and John Leichtag notched one hit and two runs scored each.

Bravo yielded five hits, struck out three and walked one. He did not allow a hit after the third inning.

West Haven's Nick Flamia went 2-for-3 with two singles.

Milford closes out the Zone II regular season tomorrow with a doubleheader against East Haven (13-13) and West Haven (7-18), with the times and fields yet to be finalized. All Connecticut Legion teams must have their games completed tomorrow by 8:30 p.m. in order to set the state tournament bracket.

It's a simple formula for Post 196, sweep the doubleheader wherever and whenever it faces East Haven and West Haven tomorrow, then get ready to play on Saturday.

"We'll most likely be in," Bugyi said of Milford's chances at the state tournament with a pair of wins.

The East Haven 89ers were set to host Milford today at 5:45, but the game was postponed due to inclement weather.
