CrossFit Milford will be hosting October Milford Mayhem, a two-day competitive fitness team competition, this Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19. Athletes in four divisions will compete in a variety of fitness challenges that test speed, strength, skill and endurance. Local athletes will be competing along side some of the best fitness athletes in the world, including CrossFit Games competitors Kaleena Ladeairous, Eric McGee and Team CrossFit Virtuosity, as well as National Professional Grid League (NPGL) athletes Nick Delgrande, Megin Oczkowski and Kate Brierley. Hungry for redemption after a fifth-place finish at the CrossFit Games Northeast Regional competition, home team CrossFit Milford is sure to bring a high level of excitement to the event. A vendor village will feature the latest in fitness gear, apparel, and nutrition. Local Connecticut food trucks will be providing athletes and spectators with meals both days. October Milford Mayhem is made possible by the support and efforts of the CrossFit Milford community. Members will volunteer their time and resources to set up and judge the events throughout the weekend. “The community is what sets apart our gym from the others,” said Jason Leydon, owner and head coach at CrossFit Milford. “Our members always come together to help CrossFit Milford be successful. Without the community there is no true CrossFit Milford.” CrossFit Millford community members will also be at the event raising money for Barbells for Boobs, a non-profit organization dedicated to the early detection of breast cancer, with an emphasis on women and men under the age of 40. “I’m a survivor and a Crossfitter,” said Megan Adams, member at CrossFit Milford.“Barbells for Boobs combines the two parts of my life and allows me to share my story while also helping others. “The sense of community that has formed amazes me. We may never meet those we are helping but everyone deserves the right to know if they have breast cancer.” A fundraiser for Barbells for Boobs will be held at CrossFit Milford on Nov. 1. The community has raised over $17,000 so far and the team is currently in sixth place out of more than 850 fundraising teams in the world for the organization. Registration is now closed for competitors, however, sponsorship opportunities are still available. Admission for spectators is free.
