McNiff golf tournament on the horizon

The first annual Jim McNiff Memorial Golf Tournament to benefit cancer research at Yale Cancer Center-Closer to Free Fund will be held Tuesday, May 8 at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course.

He coached youth basketball in the Sterling House League and at St. Mark’s. McNiff also coached baseball and softball in the Stratford Little League, and in the PAL Softball League.
He was pitcher and played first base for many teams in slow pitch softball, and played basketball in the Over Thirty League and St. Mark Adult League.
Always present on the sidelines for whatever sport that his children, Sarah, Jim, or Megan, were participating in at the time, he never missed an opportunity to cheer them on.
In later years, he was happy to be teammates with Jim Jr., playing basketball and softball, and with Megan on coed softball teams.
McNiff lost his battle with kidney cancer on Nov. 23, 2008. Family and friends organized this event to raise money to benefit cancer research to fight this disease.
