In the last two matches of the 2014 season, the Jonathan Law golf team faced Career Magnet Schol of New Haven and city rival Foran High. On May 19, the Lawmen defeated Career 172-227 at Alling Memorial Golf course. They were led by senior co-captain Ryan Axtell, who earned his fourth medal score of the season by shooting 40. Following Axtell was fellow senior Hayley Lapadula shooting a season low score of 42 and freshman Jake Mola shooting a season low 42 as well. Sophomore Max Caserta rounded out the top four by shooting 48. The following day, Law hosted Foran at Orange Hills Country Club. Law defeated Foran earlier in the season at Grassy Hill in a close 210-213 match. It was a close match decided by three strokes again: 181-184. Law has not swept the regular season matches with Foran in more than 10 years. Leading the Lawmen was Axtell who shot a medal score of 41. This score was shared by Foran’s top two golfers: Matt Gomes and Dylan Destefano. Following Axtell for Law were Lapadula and Mola at 46 and Caserta at 48. Foran closed with Sean Rowland and Dan Williams both shooting 51. Law coach Andy Koorejian said, “ Defeating Foran at Grassy Hill was a goal for us this season, as it has been our nemesis for quite some time. For the last few years, our matches have been very close and this year was no different. Our players are very evenly matched. “Its even more special for my seniors but especially Ryan, Luke and Hayley who have played since freshmen year. Max and Jake have really helped the team this season and I hope we can continue this type of performance in the years to come. “They got alot of match experience this year and found out what competition is like in the SCC. Six seniors are graduating and we are looking for new players to help out the team next year.” On Monday, June 2, Law, Foran, and Platt Tech will be playing in the 18th annual 2014 Frederick Lisman’s Mayors’ Cup City Tournament at the Orchards Golf Course. Platt Tech is the defending champion.
