The Foran High football team took on Shelton High in an SCC battle at the Vito DeVito Sports Complex and lost a 35-13 decision to the 8th-ranked Gaels on Friday night. Shelton High's Peter Hoff, Kyle Drost and Wadson Petithomme intercepted passes to slow the high-flying Lion attack, and quarterback Mark Piccirillo ran for three touchdowns. Jake Kasuba threw for 287 yards and a late touchdown to Connor Cadrin. Nick Weissauer scored on a 1-yard run and Sam Olsson's PAT tied the game at 7 in the first quarter. Shelton (4-0) scored a pair of second-quarter touchdowns to take a 21-7 lead into the half. Jason Thompson blocked a punt and Troy Vasilescu recovered the ball in the end zone for a 14-7 lead with 5:04 remaining in the second period. Shelton got the ball back with 2:55 left before the break, and went 63 yards in 10 plays, with Piccirillo scoring from a yard out with 12 seconds on the clock for a two-touchdown lead. Petithomme's interception on the Gaels' 5-yard line stopped the Lions opening drive of the third quarter. Two possessions later, Michael Pingree took a jet sweep around a Mike Ortoli block for 25 yards and a touchdown. John Zoppi's fourth of five conversion kicks made it 28-7 with 5:06 left in the third. Piccirillo's four-yard run gave Shelton a 35-7 lead with 4:52 remaining. Foran (2-2) closed the scoring with 3:14 remaining on a Kasuba's 29-yard scoring throw to Cadrin.
