The CIAC, in partnership with the Connecticut Bowling Proprietors Association, is holding its third CIAC Bowling Championship on March 1. The event will take place at Silver Lanes in East Hartford beginning at 10 a.m. and is open to all CIAC member schools. Registration for the event is now open, and the first 40 programs to submit their entries to the CIAC office, care of Judy Sylvester will be entered in the field. The 40-team field will be the largest in the three-year history of the event. This year\u2019s event will also feature a Unified Sports bowling tournament at the same venue, marking a rare situation in which an interscholastic and Unified Sports event have been combined. The teams with a maximum of 10 competitors will face off in a 10-game Baker format in which each bowler participates in two frames to accumulate a team score. Teams will be made up of all boys, all girls, or a combination, and liberal substitution rules will be allowed during the competition. As an activity rather than a currently-sponsored sport, the CIAC is looking to grow bowling with hopes of the sport becoming an official CIAC sport in the coming years. The first Bowling Championship was held in 2012 at Bradley Bowl in Windsor Locks with 19 schools participating, while 32 schools took part in the second event last year at AMC Circle Lanes in East Haven.
