Wrestling: Youth will be served at Jonathan Law
The Jonathan Law wrestling team took part in the Lancer Tournament in Waterford on Dec. 19.
The Lawmen entered wrestlers in only 9 of the 14 divisions, and two of those grapplers had to sit out because of illness or injury. The rest of coach Matt Schoonmaker’s squad competed in the Trumbull Junior Varsity Tournament.
At Waterford: 126: Tyler Francouer (So) 1-2; 138: Aisiah Rodriguez (Fr) 3-2 lost in consi semis; 145: Matt Grace (Jr.) 1-2; 152: Dan Ouelette (Sr.) 4-1 3rd; 160: Kris Osornio (Jr.) 2-2 lost in consi semis; 170: Cole Egersheim (So) 3-2 lost in consi semis; and 220: Kevin Brocksom (So) 4-1 3rd.
“As you can see over half our roster is littered with youth with seven freshman, twelve sophomores, two juniors and two seniors,” Schoonmaker said. “However, with that being said there is a wealth of talent in the room, everyday is refreshing as they improve so much. Our JV's performed very well at their tournament, with over half claiming medals.”
Law is setting its sights accordingly.
“As Foran, I think, has a legitimate shot at SCC's in the A division and possibly the M's we should be able to be in the mix hopefully for the SCC B division, if we progress as I think we will. We will have a full lineup and I haven't been this excited by our youth since the classes of 08 and 09.
“They have similarities to a point and now let's see if it pans out but as of right now it should be fun. My goal is 20 wins as always and to have a winning season.”
