Wrestling: Lawmen rally late to top Easties

Jonathan Law won the final four bouts of the night, erasing a 36-18 deficit, to defeat East Haven at Richetelli Gymnasium on Wednesday night in an SCC B Division wrestling matchup.

Freshman Jordan Beck started the fightback with a 14-12 overtime win at 126, while seniors Tim Rebentisch and Sean Berg and junior Dan Ouelette pinned at 132, 138 and 145, respectively. Law improved to 11-11 overall and 3-0 in the SCC B, while East Haven tumbled to 4-10, 1-2 in the SCC B.

After East Haven's AJ Venturo won an 18-1 technical fall over Paul Johnson in the first bout of the night at 152, Joe Coury was awarded a forfeit at 160 and senior Max German pinned in 1:45 to stake Law to a 12-5 edge.

The Easties dominated the heavyweights, winning the next four matches all via fall, to open up a 29-12 advantage. Tyler Francoeur, a freshman, got the Lawmen untracked at 106 by notching a pin in 1:57.

Sophomore Zach Anderson then dropped a hard-fought 5-4 decision to freshman Antonio Lieto at 113. At 120, Law's Rachel Escobar lost a 15-7 decision to Alex Tapia, giving the Yellow Jackets a 36-18 lead.

Law rallied back, winning the final four bouts of the night to secure the division victory. The Lawmen will host Shelton, Derby, Enfield, New Haven and Platt Tech/West Haven starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
