The Foran High wrestling team set a program record for victories in a season and Michael Ross won the 100th match of his career when the Lions took first place at the Hastings Duals in Newington on Saturday.

Coach Dave Esposito’s team defeated West Springfield (Mass.), 46-26, in the championship match. That brought the team’s record to 28-3, besting the win total of 27 a year ago. The Lions also posted wins over Platt of Meriden, 47-19, Wethersfield, 50-27, New Britain, 59-10, and Newington, 78-6.

Ross, a junior wrestling at 145 pounds, scored wins by 15-0 technical fall, 16-0 tech fall, 15-0 tech fall and 3:15 fall in the title bout.

Heavyweight Luke Edmondson, 160-pounder Noah Hubler, Ross, 132-pounder Ryan Luth and 113-pounder Gino Esposito were all perfect on the day.

Edmondson won five matches, 3-1, 1:22 fall, 5:53 fall, 52-second fall and 1:57 fall in the final.

Hubler won on the mat via disqualification, 3:43 pin and 4-2 decision.

Luth won by 35-second fall, 53-second fall and 42-second fall.

Esposito took his matches by 18-4 major decision, 4:53 fall and 2:56 fall.

Will Mauro at 120 pounds scored wins by 17-1 tech fall, 1:01 pin, 6-4 decision and 8-0 major decision.

Elijah Moretti at 126 pounds won by 41-second pin, 2:35 pin, 15-0 tech fall and 2:42 pin.

Jubilee Witte at 132 pounds won a 6-4 decision and by fall in 1:01.

Umer Khan won decision of 8-3 and 10-7 at 170 pounds.

At 182 pounds, Qasim Khan won by 1:57 fall and 8-5 decision.

Colby Stuart at 195 had wins by 1:56 fall and 1:22 fall.

Patrick Grinder at 220 scored a 59-second pin.
