Wrestling: Foran High sweeps competition at quad

Ethan Edmondson and K. J. Pokornowski swept three matches when Foran High defeated St. Bernard’s/Norwich Tech (75-6), Bacon Academy (62-12) and Platt of Meriden (52-21) on Saturday.

Coach Dave Esposito’s Lions, ranked seventh in the Connecticut Wrestling Online’s Top 10 poll, improved to 23-2 on the season.

Edmondson at 145 pounds pinned in 53 seconds vs. St. Bernards, 1:56 against Bacon Academy and earned a 19-4 technical fall with Platt.

At 160 pounds, Pokornowski pinned all three opponents: in 1:05, 52 seconds, and 3:25.

Also posting wins versus St. Bernard’s were Kyle Pokornowsi (1:04 pin at 120 pounds), Jordan Land (11-4 decision at 126), Tyler Stanko (1:45 pin at 138) and Phillip Boyles (1:55 pin at heavyweight.

Tanish Joshi (18-1 technical fall at 113 pounds), Mike Melillo (8-7 decision at 132(, Umer Khan (2:30 pin at 170), Billy Ives (27-second fall at 195 pounds), Nolan Bannon (1:17 pin at 220) and Pat Rescanski (2:12 pin at heavyweight).

Against Platt, Kyle Pokornowski (48-second fall at 120), Stanko (3:22 pin at 138), Mike Giordano (3:12 pin at 152 pounds), Khan (1:29 pin at 170), Ives (3:37 pin at 195) and Bannon (1:43 pin at 220)

Foran defeated visiting Brookfield, 68-12, last Thursday. Melillo pinned at 132 pounds in 41 seconds. Bannon earned a 24-second fall at 220 pounds. K.J. Pokornowski pinned in 1:08 at 160 pounds. Edmondson in 1:55 at 145 pounds and Kyle Pokornowski in 2:47 at 120 pounds. Giordano won an 8-6 decision at 152 pounds.
