Wrestling: Esposito, Luth win SCC titles

Gino Esposito was first at 106 and Ryan Luth tops at 120, as the underclassmen led Foran High to a second-place finish at the SCC Tournament on Saturday at Amity High in snowy Woodbridge.

Foran scored 120 team points, finishing well behind Xavier High of Middletown (233), who won the SCC title for the fourth year in a row. Daniel Hand of Madison (114), Guilford (89) and Branford (85) rounded out the top five.

Esposito, a sophomore, pinned Bijaya Jaisi of Branford High in 4:51, while Luth, a freshman, earned a 19-1 technical fall victory over Guilford's Andrew Ignoto.

Nick McQuade, who injury defaulted to Joe Cambereri of Xavier at 195, and Luke Edmondson, who lost via fall in 3:05 to Xavier's Chidi Broderick, notched second-place finishes.

Noah Hubler was third at 160, defeating last year's SCC champion at 152/MOW Jake Lundberg of Guilford High, 5-4. Ricky Kratzer also won a bronze medal, defeating Luke Bernardo of Daniel Hand via fall in 1:35 at 170.

Foran will compete in the Class M state tournament next weekend at Jonathan Law High School in Milford.
