West Shore wins Series opener

The West Shore softball team, the East Regional champions with players from Milford, Orange and West Haven districts, opened play in the Junior League Softball World Series with an 8-3 over Eagle Pass, Texas, the Southwest champions, in Kirkland, Washington on Sunday.
The locals, ages 12-14, will play Prague Little League from the Czech Republic on Monday in their second game of pool play.
West Shore’s pool includes Eagle Pass, Prague, Maunabo, Puerto Rico, which has won the title two of the last three seasons, and Anchorage, Alaska.
The top two teams in each pool meet in the semifinals on Friday, with the championship game scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.
