Washuk to play soccer at Manhattan
Manhattan College third-year women’s soccer head coach Brendan Lawler officially announced the signing of nine incoming student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the 2012 campaign, including Sam Washuk out of Foran High.
Washuk, a four-year starter at the midfield and forward positions for coach Kevin McKenzie’s Lions, earned All-Hammonasset Division honors in the Southern Connecticut Conference in each of her four years.
Washuk earned the SCC All-Academic Award all four years, and played club soccer for the Soccer Plus CT FC.
She also lettered in tennis and basketball.
“Sam is coming to Manhattan from a terrific club program, established and coached by some of the top players and coaches this country has ever produced,” Lawler said. “Playing as a forward in the ECNL, Sam has shown a work level and tactical understanding against the best club soccer competition in the nation.
“Sam understands how to link up the lines in the attack.
“Aside from the field, Sam rounds out a class of not only strong soccer players, but wonderful students.”
