Turiano, Harrington named SCC scholar athletes

Madeline Turiano and Ryan Harrington from Foran High have been named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes.

Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letterwinner and have a 3.0/B average while demonstrating leadership qualities.

Madeline Turiano
A two-sport captain (indoor and outdoor track) for the Lions, Turiano is ranked in the top 15 percent of her class and sports a 3.43 grade point average. She is a member of the National Art Honor Society.

Foran indoor track coach Pat Doheny said, “Madeline excellence in athletics and academics makes her a true scholar athlete and a fine representative of Foran High School.”

Ryan Harrington
The captain of the Lions’ boys swimming team, Harrington ranks 14th in a class of 230 students and is an AP Scholar.
A CAPT Scholar, he finds time to volunteer to help others (over 200 hours of community service).  He also is a varsity letterwinner on the Foran boys tennis team.

Foran boys swimming coach Kristin Skuches said, “Ryan is a true team leader who is able to influence others with his character and humility.”

“Many thanks to the Sports Center of Connecticut for its support of the SCC and the Scholar Athlete of the Month program,” said SCC Commissioner Al Carbone.

“This conference has been proud of its success for the last 20-plus years, and to be able to recognize outstanding young men and women who demonstrate the desire and ability to succeed solidifies what the SCC is all about.”

Founded in 1994, the Southern Connecticut Conference is in its 21st season of competition in 2014-15 with 23 member-schools and nearly 23,000 students.
