Softball: Lady Lawmen advance to Class L quarterfinals
Maddie Lula had three hits, scored a run, and knocked home the go-ahead run, when the 13th-seeded Jonathan Law softball team defeated No. 4 North Haven, 4-2, in a Class L state tournament second round game on Wednesday.
Coach Melanie Blude’s Lady Lawmen (14-8) will visit No. 12 Naugatuck (15-7) in the quarterfinals on Friday at 4.
The Greyhounds defeated fifth-seeded Windsor, 4-2.
Brianna Buccitti pitched a complete-game three-hitter.
Cali Jolley and Kacy O’Connor each added two hits.
Sarah Lombardi had a two-run home run for North Haven (16-5).
Law defeated Pomperaug High from Southbury, 3-1, in its tourney opener played in Milford last Tuesday.
Skyler Bender had a hit and two RBIs. Lula added a hit and an RBI.
Emily Ostar had an RBI double for No. 20 Pomperaug (9-12).
