Softball: Foran wins 3-2, to play in state semis

The Foran High softball team advanced to the Class L state semifinals with a 3-2 victory over Maloney High in Meriden on Thursday.

Coach Stephanie Dawid’s sixth-seeded Lions (19-4) will play second-seeded Masuk High of Monroe in the semis at a site and time to be determined.

The Panthers (19-3) defeated Lauralton Hall 2-0 in their quarterfinal.

Brittney Baker tripled home the decisive run in the top of the sixth inning to take the score to 3-1.

Third-seeded Maloney (17-5) scored its runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

Amanda Mendillo had three hits, including a home run for Foran.

The Lions scored twice in their first at bat.

Makenna Prete got the win.
