The Foran High softball team collected 13 hits, including a pair of solo home runs, when coach Stephanie Dawid’s Lions went on the road and defeated SCC foe North Haven 9-6 on Monday.

“I liked the way my team battled every inning; every run mattered,” Dawid said. “They stayed settled, which was important because North Haven never gave up.”

The Lions scored a run in the first and three in the second to lead 4-0.

Foran’s Amanda Mendillo hit a home run leading off the fourth.

North Haven scored a run off Makenna Prete in the home fifth, but Hannah DeSousa hammered a home run with two out in the sixth for a 6-1 lead.

Natalia Hart and Mendillo added RBIs during a three-run seventh.

The Indians used an infield hit, Foran’s only error, followed by five straight hits to close the deficit to 9-6.

Mendillo, at shortstop, got the second out on a force play and Hart caught a fly ball to center to strand two runners.
