Softball: Daniel Hand upends Foran High in playoffs

The Foran High softball team lost a 9-6 decision to visiting Daniel Hand from Madison in the SCC quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Third-seeded Foran scored three runs in its first two at bats, but the sixth-seeded Tigers put five runs on the board in their second trip to the plate.

Coach Stephanie Dawid’s Lions went in front 6-5 with a three-run rally in the fourth.

Daniel Hand scored two in the fifth and added runs in the sixth and seventh frames.

The Tigers will play third second-seeded Lauralton Hall in the semifinals at West Haven High on Thursday at 5 p.m. The Crusaders blanked seventh-seeded Westies 5-0.

Foran’s Caitlyn Parisi and Alexis James both had two hits.

Kayla Gosselin, Natalia Hart, Hannah DeSousa and Amanda Mendillo hit doubles.

The Tigers’ Hollis Wiell had four hits. Claire Gravino had two.
