Sage Esposito was inducted into the Connecticut Volleyball Hall of Fame at the 21st annual Induction Ceremony and Dinner on Tuesday night.

Esposito, a 2010 Foran High graduate, was named to the Hall as a scholastic player.

“It was an honor to be inducted into the Connecticut Volleyball Hall of Fame,” Esposito said.

“My time at Foran High School started my love for volleyball. And my coach, and mother, Julie Johnson was a big part of instilling my love and appreciation for the game growing up.

“My time at Foran prepared me to continue my career at UConn, where I was able to play at the highest level. I’m proud to be part of an amazing group of members of the Hall of Fame.”

Selected New Haven Register Female Athlete of the Year, Esposito led Foran High to the Class L state quarterfinals as a senior when she had 445 assists, 151 digs, 69 service aces and 68 kills.

A three-time All-Area selection, Esposito finished her career with nearly 2,000 assists and 581 digs.

Also a standout on the softball field, Esposito helped lead Foran to the SCC Hammonasset Division title, the Class L state championship and the No. 1 spot in the final Register Top 10 poll.

As a senior, she batted .524 with 45 hits, 22 runs and 21 stolen bases.

Esposito went on to earn four letters for the University of Connecticut women’s volleyball team as a setter and defensive specialist.

Entering the Hall’s Class of 2018 with Esposito were Gloria Bellucci as an official, Lauren Holt as a collegiate player, Maite Mendizabal as a scholastic player, Richard Myers as a collegiate coach, Deb O’Brien as a scholastic coach and Elena Lockett as an honorary inductee.
