SCC swimming: Fitzgerald, Begg take home titles

Foran High’s Sarah Fitzgerald and Lauralton Hall’s Katherine Begg captured individual titles at the SCC girls swimming championships at Southern Connecticut on Thursday.

Fitzgerald won the 100 breaststroke title with a time of 1:06.55 for the Lions, who placed eighth.

Foran’s Jordan MacDonald was fourth in the 100 butterfly and sixth in the 200 free.

Emily Sportini, Fitzgerald, MacDonald and Ava Corsi were sixth in the 200 medley relay.

MacDonald, Emma Bell, Fitzgerald and Corsi were sixth in the 400 freestyle medley.

Begg’s time of 1:56.80 bested the field in the 200 freestyle for the Crusaders, who placed third behind team champion Cheshire and second-place Amity Regional.

Begg took fifth in the 100 freestyle.

Lauralton’s Brenna McLaughlin was second in the 500 freestyle and tied for second in the 200 free.

Madyson Barnick, Isabella Preneta, McLaughlin and Begg took third in the 200 freestyle relay.

McLaughlin, Rory Catherine Woods, Caroline Sargent and Begg placed fourth in the 400 freestyle relay

Sargent was sixth in the 200 IM.
