Milford High School Fencing Team captain and Foran High senior Andrew Hiza was recently named to the 2016 United States Fencing Association’s All-American First Team USA.

This is the second consecutive year Hiza has earned this honor, after leading his team to the state championships in each of the three years since the team’s inception.

The annual award at the USFA National Championships in Dallas, Texas recognizes the highest levels of academic achievement among the student-athletes who who excel in both the classroom and on the fencing strip.

After starting the fencing club six years ago, Hiza has been instrumental in bringing competitive fencing to Milford’s high schools. The team starts its fourth season on Nov. 29, and interested Jonathan  Law, Foran High and Platt Tech students may contact the club manager at milfordfencing@yahoo.com. No experience is required, just the highest level of sportsmanship and a competitive spirit.
