Milford gains berth in Division II semifinals

Milford defeated third-seeded Branford, 4-1, in the Division II boys hockey quarterfinal round in West Haven on Friday.

Coach Sal Follo’s 11th-seeded Indians (13-8-1) will play second-seeded Amity of Woodbridge (15-7-0) in the semifinals on Tuesday at Ingalls Rink in New Haven.

Milford’s Brandon Argyros scored at the 2:30 mark of the first period on a power play with Will Vitelli and Zach White earning assists.

Vitelli made it 2-0 midway through the second period on another power play. Jon DePascale had the assist.

Ben Lavallee’s goal from White at 13:37 gave Milford a 3-0 lead.

Branford (16-5-1) got on the board on Tyler Hackett’s goal at 6:14 of the third, but DePascale’s empty-netter off a pass from Andrew Gobany completed the scoring at 14:59.

John DePalma had 36 saves and Branford’s AJ Brink had 22.

White passed the 200-point mark in his career.
