Milford falls to Stratford in Legion baseball

Milford Post 196 lost to Stratford Post 42, 5-3 in American Legion Zone 2 play in Stratford on Wednesday.

The series concludes today at 5:45 at Foran High with the completion of Tuesday’s suspended game with the score 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th, followed by the regularly scheduled game.

Milford is 10-11. Stratford is 16-6.

Mac Taylor had two hits and an RBI for Milford.

Stratford struck first with two out in the first inning when Jack Duffy singled home Sam Breiner, who had doubled, to make it 1-0.

Milford quickly erased that and went ahead with two runs in the top of the second.

Stratford pitcher Tim Leveen walked Mike Bevino and Nick Tuozzola and then Ryan Muir and Taylor had RBI singles to make it 2-1.

Stratford threatened in the fourth. Duffy led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, and went to third on a single by Darek Wojenski but Adam Antonini retired the next two batters.

Stratfiord tied the game with an unearned run in the fifth. Joe Marsan led off with a walk and Brian Valeriano’s check swing ball was thrown past the first baseman by Antonini to put runners at second and third with no outs.

Adam Wojenski’s infield out scored Marsan to tie it at 2 before Antonini retired the next two batters on infield grounders.

Stratford struck again the sixth inning. Darek Wojenski singled with one out, his third hit of the game. Pinch hitter Rick Starkey then walked and Bradley drove both runners home with a triple.

Marsan followed that up with a single to make it 5-2.

In the top of the seventh with one out, Cheech Guistino singled, R.J. Jackson walked and Bevino singled to load the bases.

Leveen struck out the next batter before Tuozzola walked for the third time make it 5-3.

Jonathan Och came in and got the save by retiring the next batter.
