Between Mick Murray’s 22-yard field goal that gave Jonathan Law a 3-0 lead with 23 seconds left in the first quarter in its season-opening football game, and Max German's two-yard rushing touchdown with under two minutes to play, visiting Harding of Bridgeport scored 38 unanswered points to earn a 38-10 victory in an SCC-FCIAC Football Challenge contest in Devon on Wednesday night.
Dequan Woods rushed for a one-yard score with 10:37 left in the first half and Harding tacked on the first of four consecutive two-point conversions to lead 8-3. A 68-yard touchdown pass from Taisun Phommachanh to Tyshawn Walker boosted the President’s advantage to 16-3 with 49 ticks remaining before the break.
Harding got the ball back in the third quarter and drove 66 yards in eight plays before Woods capped the march with an 11-yard run at the 7:03 mark.
Law was stopped twice on downs on its next two possessions and Harding made it 30-3 after a Phommachanh-to-Woods 13-yard scoring pass with 5:58 left to play.
Harding added another score before Law went 47 yards in three plays to get on the board last.
