Lauralton earns title

Emma McCarthy scored 26 points and had 17 rebounds to lead second-seeded Lauralton Hall to a 68-53 victory over No. 2 South Windsor in the Class LL girls basketball final at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday.

"I'm overjoyed, excited and just so proud of the girls," Crusaders' coach Amanda Forcucci said after the locals earned the program's first state championship. "I just couldn't wait to hug them. It feels so awesome."

South Windsor finished 23-4.

Carly Fabbri scored 15 points, Maggie Salandra 14, Emily Menendez nine and Maureen Connolly had four points for Lauralton, which finished 26-1.

Lauralton out did the Bobcats 18-4 on second-chance points and 12-4 on fast-break baskets.
