Lacrosse: Milford's Will Vitelli earns honors for Bobcats
Quinnipiac University face-off specialist Will Vitelli out of Foran High had a perfect day at the X, earning StringKing Player of the Week honors.
A sophomore, Vitelli went 19-of-19, including 9-of-9 in a pivotal fourth quarter when Quinnipiac earned an 8-7 overtime win against MAAC favorite Marist College on April 2.
Vitelli won 26.55% of the votes in a tight field of candidates. The StringKing Player of the Week is voted on by InsideLacrosse.com readers. The finalists are narrowed down by the IL staff on Monday, and voting takes place early in the week including games up to Sunday.
Vitelli was a multiple sport athlete at Foran, playing hockey for four years. He was captain his senior year when Milford Co-op made a bid for the state title.
He played lacrosse at Foran for three years under coach Brian Adkins. There was no team his freshman year, so Vitelli helped coach at Milford Youth Lacrosse. He was a captain for the lacrosse team his junior and senior years.
AN MYL alum, Vitelli has come back to help coach and referee Bantam games.
As a freshman at Quinnipiac in 2015, he appeared in eight games for the Bobcats and won 28 of 57 faceoffs on the year. He was the primary faceoff specialist against Air Force in the regular season finale, winning 12 of 20. He had two ground balls and won five of nine faceoffs in a 9-8 win over Monmouth.
