Kelly Kruysman and Mark Bluemer top SCC honor roll
Kelly Kruysman and Mark Bluemer from Jonathan Law have been named The SportsCenter of Connecticut/Southern Connecticut Conference Scholar Athletes of the Month for February.
The SportsCenter of Connecticut/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month program, now in its eighth year, honor outstanding young men and women each month during the 2013-14 academic year.
A three-sport athlete (cross country, indoor track, outdoor track) at Jonathan Law, Kruysman has been a model student athlete. She currently sports a 4.25 grade point average, while taking eight advanced placement courses which places her in the top 10 percent of the class.
Kruysman has been named to the high honor roll all four years at Law. She is the captain of all three sports, showing tremendous leadership ability.
Jonathan Law Athletic Director Mike Hoggatt said:
“Kelly is a great leader that many of her peers look to for advice and guidance during their high school careers.”
A captain of the Lawmen wrestling team, Bluemer has been an exceptional performer in the classroom, where he currently holds a 4.12 grade point average while taking eight advanced placement courses.
He currently ranks in the top 10 percent of his graduating class and has been named to the high honor roll all four years.
Bluemer is a four year participant on the wrestling team and this season placed sixth in the Class M Championship Tournament and qualified for the State Open.
“Mark is a great example of a student athlete who leads by example in the classroom and on the wrestling mat.”
Student athletes who are selected must be a varsity letterwinner and have a 3.0/B average, while demonstrating leadership qualities such as: being a positive role model; helping teammates overcome adversity; showing a commitment to self-improvement; or putting the needs of the team before themselves.
Sports Center of CT/SCC Scholar Athlete of the Month recipients and receive a certificate, commemorative tee-shirt and a SportsCenter of Connecticut activity pass.
“Many thanks to the Sports Center of Connecticut for its support of the SCC and the Scholar Athlete of the Month program,” said SCC Commissioner Al Carbone.
“This conference has been proud of its success for the last 20 years, and to be able to recognize outstanding young men and women who demonstrate the desire and ability to succeed solidifies what the SCC is all about.”
Founded in 1994, the Southern Connecticut Conference is in its 20th season of competition in 2013-14 with 22 member-schools and nearly 23,000 students.
SCC member schools have captured 349 state championships since the league’s inception.
The SCC is recognized for its outstanding non-athletic programs and events, which attempt to break down barriers and build bridges of understanding to its students.
