Indoor track: Lauralton Hall putting up qualifying times

The Lauralton Hall indoor track team competed in a pair of events this past week.

Coach Ellis Gill’s Crusaders began with a spot in the Elm City Coaches Invitational on Jan. 5.

“We had many good performances throughout the long day,” Gill said. “We had three girls, junior Carly Costikyan and sophomores Katie McLaughlin and Noonie Baisley, all run the 600m. They each ran times just three seconds or less short of making states. Very solid performances.

“We also had three great showings in the 1000. Three juniors ran this event and all three qualified for states. Mary Feeney ran an impressive time of 3:17. Carly Costikyan ran a nice time of 3:27.2, and Mia Pastorok ran another nice time of 3:29.9.”

Lauralton took part in the second SCC Developmental Meet on Tuesday. The team had 31 personal records at this meet.

“Mary Feeney approved upon her already qualified 600 time with a three-second improvement, running 1:47.52,” Gill said. “Freshman Kiera Henry also qualified for states in her second individual event this season, jumping 4-8 in the high jump.

“Our last two great performances on the night came from our two relays. Our 4x400 relay consisting of Mary Feeney, Carly Costikyan, Katie McLaughlin and Abby Baisley ran a solid time of 4:32.39 and qualified for states. They finished fourth overall.

“Also finishing fourth overall was the sprint medley relay team of Kiera Henry, Laura Elwood, Mary Feeney and Abby Baisley. They ran 4:36.68. This time not only qualified them for states, but also broke a school record which stood at 4:41 from two years ago.”

Lauralton has now qualified all four relays for state competition, as well as six individuals.
