Indoor track: Lauralton Hall fifth at SCC Sectionals

Lauralton Hall placed fifth at the SCC West Sectional Meet on Wednesday.

“This is our best finish in school history,” coach Ellis Gill reported. “The previous best was 7th two seasons ago. The 4x800m team of Abigail Baisley, Carly Costikyan, Rachel Wywoda and Mary Feeney finished first overall in a time of 10:36.81.

“Junior Alani Burke qualified for states in the 55 dash with a time of 8.11.

“In the 1000 meter, junior Mary Feeney placed second with a time of 3:20.32. Also placing for team points in this event were  senior Rachel Wywoda (fifth) and junior Catherine Palaia (sixth).

“In the 600, we had three girls place in the top six to help earn points for the team. Sophomore Katie McLaughlin finished fourth, junior Carly Costikyan finished fifth and sophomore Lauren Baisley finished sixth.

“Senior Margaret O’Connor finished sixth with a nice personal record of 5:59.7.

“Freshman Kiera Henry placed second in the high jump with a fine jump of 4-8.

“Lastly, the 4x400m relay consisting of Mary Feeney, Carly Costikyan, Abigail Baisley and Kelly Hufnagel placed fifth.

“All relays and events where girls placed in the top six overall will advance them to compete in the SCC Championships next Friday.

“Overall, it was an extremely fun day and was a great success. It was great to see all the girls perform at a high level, and to see them achieve a great overall place for our team.”
