Marisa Minone picked up nine kills and Haley Maercklein added four in leading the Branford High volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Foran High on Thursday night in Milford.

The Hornets, who improved their record to 10-6, won on game scores of 27-25, 25-12 and 26-24.

Katherine Kiernan had six kills and Catherine Weed had nine digs for the 11-7 Lions, who have dropped six of their last nine matches after starting the season at 8-1.

"Our problem tonight, like it’s been for a good part of the season, is our inability to finish," said Foran coach Julie Johnson. "We get a lead and we can't hold on to  it. It's really become a mental problem for us."

The win by Branford avenged an earlier-season 3-1 home loss to Foran.
