Girls volleyball: Foran holds off late Law charge

Foran High defeated Jonathan Law, 3-0, in girls volleyball on Monday night.

Coach Julie Johnson’s Lions won the first two games, 25-17, 25-13.

Coach Stacy Loch’s Eagles made sure the large crowd on hand at the Edna Fraser Gymnasium had something to stay seated for in the third game.

Foran took a 21-13 lead before Angela Sciuto stepped to the service stripe and served 12 straight winners.

Hard-fought side outs marked the rest of the way, with the Lions looking to close it out and the Eagles trying to extend the match.

Katherine Kiernan served out the match to give Foran a 30-28 decision.

“Law did a good job keeping its energy up,” Johnson said of her team, now 2-1. “I tell my team to go after the next point and they did a good job of doing that.”

Foran’s Lauren Notholt had 11 kills and 18 assists.

Kiernan had 10 kills.

Alyssa Deptulski had 13 digs and four aces.

“They turned it on in that third game,” Loch said of her team, playing in its first match of the season. “It was incredible. I was very proud.”

Law’s Stephanie Felag had seven kills.

Cassidy Boath had 12 digs and was 9-for-9 serving.

Sciuto had five kills and 10 digs.
