Girls soccer: Law falls to Branford High in state tourney

Jonathan Law’s 5th-seeded girls soccer team lost a 2-1 decision to 28th-seeded Branford in Milford on Tuesday.

Coach J.D. Rhode’s Lady Lawmen finish at 15-5-3.

Branford (7-7-3) will play at No. 21-seed E.O. Smith (9-8-0) in the second round.

The Panthers knocked off 12th-seeded Watertown on penalty kicks in their first-round match.

Samara Thacker scored an unassisted goal to put Law up in the first half.

Branford tied the game before intermission when Melanie Sachs scored with Taylor Brown earning the assist.

Sachs gave the Hornets the lead early in the second half. Suzanna Proto had the assist.

Law had 14 shots to 11 for Branford.

Law’s Jillian Hall had six saves.

Branford’s Nina Grabowski had seven stops.
