Girls soccer: Foran takes down Law

The Foran High girls soccer team defeated crosstown rivals Jonathan Law, 3-0, in a Southern Connecticut Conference matchup.

The road victory was the fourth in a row for coach Casey Blake's Lions, who improved to 5-2-1 overall. Foran has not conceded a goal since a 2-0 loss to Mercy High of Middletown back on Sept. 22.

Senior midfielder Meghan Sengstacken opened the scoring with 21:28 left in the first half, lashing home a deep shot after junior Hayley Byers played her a short free kick.

Law (3-4-2) pushed for the equalizer, having the better of the play for portions of the first half following the opener by Sengstacken. Forwards Catie Rice and Samara Thacker, with help from Kiana Walker, pressured the Foran backline — but could not get anything past sophomore keeper Abigail Lucas.

Foran forward Kayla Coppola doubled the Lion lead with under 10 minutes left, before Byers netted the final tally with 5:02 left to play.

The Lions put their winning streak on the line Saturday when they travel to Bunnell to face the Bulldogs (3-5) at 6.

Law returns to action on Oct. 14, when the Eagles host Cheshire at 4:30.
