Jonathan Law and Foran High battled to a 2-2 draw in an SCC Hammonasset Division girls soccer matchup at DeVito Sports Complex on Monday night.

Samara Thacker’s equalizer with 5:32 left to play pulled the Eagles level, just seven minutes after Cassondra Zak staked Foran to a 2-1 edge with a drive past Law keeper Gina DiFederico.

Thacker, a freshman reserve, provided the answer, staying with a bouncing ball along the left edge of the penalty area. She outmuscled a Foran defender, then poked a shot past Lion sophomore keeper Madeline Mitchell to provide the final scoreline.

Foran, which moved to 2-1-1 on the season, took a 1-0 advantage with 16:27 remaining in the first half.

Monica Malangone belted home a 30-yard drive to make it 1-0 Lions, but Law answered that marker quickly.

After a foul inside the penalty area, Paige Szygiel stepped to the spot and lashed a low shot into the left corner of the net to tie it at 1.

Law, now 1-3-1 on the season, fell behind again on Zak’s strike with 12:13 left in the second half but again showed resiliency.

With the draw, the Eagles snapped a two-game losing streak which included a 5-0 division loss to Daniel Hand of Madison and a 3-0 division setback to Guilford. They host Sheehan High of Wallingford (3-1) on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Foran, coming off a 5-1 loss to Guilford after consecutive one-goal victories over Hamden High and Wilbur Cross/Hillhouse/Career, hosts Lyman Hall of Wallingford on Friday night at 6.

The Lions and Eagles square off again on Monday, Oct. 19, on Law’s home turf.
