Freshman Ariana Montero's goal off a corner kick by Hayley Byers earned the Foran High girls soccer team a 2-2 tie with West Haven in a Southern Connecticut Conference intra-divisional game played on Wednesday night at Ken Strong Stadium in West Haven.

Byers' kick from the right corner with 8:23 remaining found its way to Montero, whose shot from 15 yards out eluded the grasp of West Haven goalkeeper Alycia Morales (three saves).

West Haven (1-2-2) had two chances in the closing minutes, both off of corner kicks, one by Gabriella Prisco and other by Lauren Lewis.

Foran (1-1-1) had taken a 1- 0 lead less four minutes into the first half on a 30-yard indirect kick goal from Byers.

Shut out despite having a 7-2 edge in shots in the first half, the Westies got a pair of second-half goals from Prisco, one on a penalty kick at 34:45 and another on a bullet-like 40-yarder at 10:09.

The tie for Foran comes during a stretch where the Lions are playing three games in three days. Foran lost 1-0 decision to Guilford on Tuesday and the Lions will play visiting Mercy of Middletown at 6:30 on Thursday.

"I really liked the way this team stayed composed in our game tonight," said Foran coach Casey Blake. "We're a senior-dominated team with lots of experience, so our kids really aren't panicking when they get behind.”

Foran was outshot by a 15-6 margin by West Haven.

Sophomore goalie Abigail Lucas made seven saves for the Lions.
