Foran swim leads roundup

The Foran High boys swimming and diving team evened its record at 5-5 on the season when coach Kristin Skuches’ Lions defeated Shelton High, 85-77, in Milford on Feb. 12.

Matt Tylutki, Drew Corsi, Eric Hammer and Sam Olsson (1:55.32) won the 200 medley relay.

Paul Homorodean was first in the 50 freestyle (23.28) and 100 butterfly (1:00.89).

Conor Quinn captured the 200 freestyle (1:59.62), Corsi the 200 IM (2:16.05) and Tylutki was best in the 100 freestyle (54.81).

Olsson, Tylutki, Quinn and Homorodean won the 200 freestyle relay (1:43.52).

Foran earlier defeated West Haven, 92-76.

Law boys swim

Jonathan Law lost to Daniel Hand of Madison, 89-70, on Feb. 10.

Kevin Keramis in the 500 freestyle (5:55.50), James Mercaldo in the 100 backstroke (1:26.11) and Gabe Salles in the 100 breaststroke (1:31.39) were individual winners for coach Molly Rosner’s Eagles.

Josh Paton, Colby Brennan, Salles and Keramis took first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:55.15) and Mercaldo, Jacque Jalaf, Almidani and Brennan were best in the 400 freestyle relay (4:31.15).

Law girls hoop

Jessica Centore scored 10 points, Erin Saley eight, Laura Dulin six and Danielle Nantel and Lianne Maynard six points each in the Eagles’ 56-42 loss to Daniel Hand of Madison (15-5) on Feb. 11. Law finished 7-13, one win out of qualifying for states.

Foran High completed its season with a 65-54 victory over Hillhouse High of New Haven on Feb. 14. Teneya McLaughlin had 21 points and six assists for the Lions (7-13), who fell one win shy of states despite defeating the Academics (10-10). Kyra Blackletter had 16 points and Lucy Weissauer scored 12. McLaughlin scored 14 points, Weissauer seven and Jenna Zacarella and Blacketter had five points each in the Lions’ 90-37 loss to sixth-ranked Career High of New Haven (16-2) on Feb. 11.

Louis Birks and Dylan Vienneau scored nine points each in Jonathan Law’s 69-39 loss to Daniel Hand of Madison (12-6) on Feb. 11.

Foran High posted a score of 105.9 to defeat North Haven (94.0) and Hamden High (84.9) on Feb. 4.

Wrestling

Foran High wrestling team won four matches, including a 44-26 victory over SCC Division I rival Amity of Woodbridge, in Milford on Feb. 8. Luke Edmondson opened the Amity match with a 5-2 decision in the heavyweight class. Kevin Kwalek was awarded a forfeit at 106 to take the score to 12-0, before Amity’s Jake Cala decisioned Gino Esposito 5-2 at 113 and Austin MacDonald defeated Elijah Moretti by 15-0 technical fall. Jesse Cala’s forfeit win at 126 lifted Amity into a 14-12 lead. Jubilee Witte’s scored a pin in 3:13 at 132, but Amity answered with a win by fall at 1:38. The score went back and forth, with Foran’s Rich Kratzer pinning in 3:34 and Amity countering with a pin at 160. Noah Hubler tied the match at 26 with a 3-2 decision at 170 pounds. Zach Hubler’s 1:09 win by fall at 182 gave Foran the lead and Ben Croll’s forfeit win at 220 sealed the decision.
