Foran's Brett Huber breaks state record, Lions win
Foran High’s Brett Huber etched his name into the record books in the Lions’ 47-30 victory over Creed/Career/Whitney Tech at the Vito DeVito Sports Complex in Milford on Thursday night.
Huber caught 19 passes for 211 yards, accounting for six touchdowns in all, as coach Jeff Bevino’s club improved to 6-3 on the season.
Huber has Foran’s Thanksgiving Day clash with Jonathan Law to set a new state mark for receptions in a season. He is currently tied at 102 catches with New Canaan’s Pete Demmerle in 1970.
Huber has caught 204 passes in his career, setting a new state mark. Stonington High’s Blake Jensen was the former record holder with 188 before graduating in 2002.
Lance DiNatale found his favorite receiver four times, and Huber added touchdown runs of 1 and 3 yards. DiNatale threw for 446 yards, on 34-for-46 passing.
Jared Hubler had eight catches for 185 yards.
Foran took a 6-0 lead on Steven Lynch’s 36-yard fumble return for a touchdown.
The Lions made it 20-0 at the half, as DiNatale connected with Huber for 12- and 15-yard scores. Pierce Klein made two of his five conversion kicks before the break.
CCWT rallied in the third quarter to close within 33-22.
Huber ran for a score and caught an 18-yard touchdown pass in the period.
Huber’s 3-yard run and 13-yard catch of a DiNatale pass took the score to 47-22.
Foran is ranked 10th in Class M, with the top eight teams making the playoffs.
The Lions needs either No. 9 Berlin (7-2) to lose to New Britain (5-4) or No. 8 to lose to New London (8-0) or East Lyme (1-8).
