Foran defeats Amity, sweeps the day

The Foran High wrestling team won four matches, including a 44-26 victory over SCC Division I rival Amity of Woodbridge, in Milford on Saturday.

Coach Frank Peters’ Lions are 23-7 on the season.

Luke Edmondson opened the Amity match with a 5-2 decision in the heavyweight class.

Kevin Kwalek was awarded a forfeit at 106 to take the score to 12-0, before Amity’s Jake Cala decisioned Gino Esposito 5-2 at 113 and Austin MacDonald defeated Elijah Moretti by 15-0 technical fall.

Jesse Cala’s forfeit win at 126 lifted Amity into a 14-12 lead.

Jubilee Witte’s scored a pin in 3:13 at 132, but Amity answered with a win by fall at 1:38.

The score went back and forth, with Foran’s Rich Kratzer pinning in 3:34 and Amity countering with a pin at 160.

Noah Hubler tied the match at 26 with a 3-2 decision at 170 pounds.

Zach Hubler’s 1:09 win by fall at 182 gave Foran the lead and Ben Croll’s forfeit win at 220 sealed the decision.

Foran also defeated Stratford (49-24), SMSA/University (76-3) and St. Bernard/Norwich Tech (63-9).

Winning in the mat versus Stratford were Noah Hubler (7-0 decision), Zach Hubler (15-0 technical fall), Croll (3:03 pin), Edmondson (5:24 pin), Esposito (15-0 technical fall), Witte (2:43 pin), and Patrick Fitzgerald (1:08 pin at 138).

Edmondson (43-second pin), Esposito (15-0 technical fall), Kwalek (47-second pin), J.R. Pellegrino (15-0 technical fall at 132), and Michael Lynch (3:56 pin at 160) posted wins ober SMSA/University.

Edmondson (59-second pin), Kwalek (43-second pin), Pellegrino (1:38 pin), Fitzgerald (1:04 pin), Kratzer (52-second pin), Noah Hubler (7-1 decision), Zach Hubler (1:18 pin) and Cristian Woodford (8-6 decision at 195) had wins versus St. Bernard/Norwich Tech.

Branford High visits Wednesday at 6:30 in the last regular season match of the season.
