Ryan Manning scored the winning goal off a pass from Sal Rosa with 2:22 remaining when coach Brian Adkins’ 18th-seeded Foran High boys lacrosse team defeated 15th-seeded Fitch High, 13-12, in a Class M qualifying round state tournament game in Groton on Saturday.
The Lions improved to 9-8 on the season with the program’s first win in the state tournament.
Fitch High fell to 9-8.
Foran will play at second-seeded New Canaan High in a first-round game on Wednesday at 4:30.
In the win over Fitch, the Lions took a 3-2 lead after one period, were in front 7-5 at the half and 11-9 after three.
Rosa and David McLenithan scored four goals each. Manning and Jake Lambert had two goals each.
Lance DiNatale had a goal, Jonathan DePascale three assists, Rosa two assists and Lambert and Manning one assist.
Fitch led, 41-40, in shots. John Teller made 10 saves for Foran and Fitch’s Christian Snodgrass made seven stops.
Luke Letellier had four goals and Ryan Reuling three goals for Fitch.
